Ear Piercing for Migraine and Chronic Pain Relief

This page is about my own experiences.  I am not a medical professional, nor am I involved in the body piercing industry in any way other than as a consumer.

But I do want to share with you my experience of ear piercing as highly effective therapy in the treatment of migraine and cluster headaches, and of chronic pain.

Migraines and cluster headaches were a fact of life for me. For as long as I can remember, I’ve lived with headaches of one type or another, often lasting for days. I learned to live with them and work despite them, because life can’t just stop like that.

People had told me that ear piercings to eradicate migraines existed, but I wasn’t sure whether to believe them or not. I deliberated for a while, and tried to research it as much as I could. There wasn’t a lot of information available, which is part of the reason I have made this page. Daith

On February 24, 2016,  I had a daith piercing done. My experience is documented in detail in a blog post I wrote that evening and another post I wrote a week later, but long story short, I haven’t had a migraine since I had it done. I have had only infrequent headaches, still triggered by those things which used to inflict severe headaches on me for days afterwards, but they go away with ibuprofen.

This has been absolutely life-changing for me. I haven’t had to take a day off work, or miss a family event, because of a headache.

Because of the success of the daith piercing, I was very excited to hear about a piercing that would help with chronic pain.

Conch 2

On October 18, 2017, I returned to the same person who did my daith piercing and had a conch piercing done.

Once again, my body has responded really well. I still have pain, but it is far less intense and much more manageable than before.  I’m less exhausted by it, and can live and work more productively.

Another benefit of having this piercing is that since I had it done, I can manage my pain with ibuprofen and paracetamol to the same levels which I was achieving with 60mg of codeine three times a day, and Tramadol at night. This has brought significant improvements in my general and long-term health.

I can’t guarantee that it will work for everyone who tries it, but I can definitely testify that it has worked for me. And I am very, very thankful for that.
